Very sad news from the Metroplex tonight. Richard Durrett, a well-known ESPN writer who wrote about the Texas Rangers, has died because of a brain aneurysm. Reportedly, he collapsed today and later died. Durrett was a writer for ESPNDallas.com for the past five years. He covered not just the Rangers, but the Dallas Stars as well.
Previously, he was at the Dallas Morning News for nine years covering all sorts of North Texas sports, including the Rangers and the Stars. He was a graduate of Texas Christian University.
He was an accomplished writer. His last piece at ESPNDallas.com, written just today, is here: http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/id/11097551/texas-rangers-sign-carlos-pena-minor-league-deal
Prayers to him and his family, and the North Texas sports community for a very sad loss.
