Sammy Watkins officially suspended first two games

Per Roy Philpott of CUtigers.com (important Clemson website), pending Board of Trustees approval, Clemson's Sammy Watkins will be suspended the first two games of the 2012 season. Details on CUTigers.com.

Watkins was arrested on marijuana charges in early May, as he had some of that in his car.

He will miss the games against Auburn in Atlanta (a big game at the Georgia Dome) and the game against Ball State.

It is official: Sammy Watkins suspended for first 2 games of season. SID just sent out (per @aimclemson).

Watkins says he "accepts the suspension" and "made a mistake and realized it when this first happened. One thing we learn in this program "is that there are consequences for your actions. The entire summer has been a learning experience. I'm ready to get past this, and I look forward to Sept. 15 when I can return to game day in Death Valley."

Swinney says in release that the two-game suspension was the "low end" of the possible consequences (i.e. could have been more).

Dabo said the punishment was his alone. He needed no input or approval from Board of Trustees.

Also, Clemson, South Carolina and Kentucky are some of the many teams that have banned Twitter use by their players during the season, including practice.
